Visit by James Cann

James Cann is a local dairy farmer who has a herd of 160 cows on his farm in Stroxworthy. He visited Ashmansworthy and Alminstone classes on Friday morning to talk to us about farming and how it has changed since Victorian times. Did you know that in Victorian times, children as young as 6 were expected to work long days bird scaring, planting potatoes or picking up stones from fields? The children learnt a lot, and particularly enjoyed the free samples of cheese and chocolate milkshake, the end product of the milk that James’ cows produce.
