Today Ashmansworthy class used what they have learnt this week about finding the volume of a cuboid to investigate how to make the box with the biggest volume from a piece of card 20cm by 20cm. By cutting increasingly larger squares from each corner an open box could be made from the net. The children had to record their findings systematically to find the dimensions for the optimum sized box. Some extended this by using decimals or a different shaped piece of paper.
