River studies at Torrington Common

Ashmansworthy class had a lovely day at Common lake Stream on Torrington Common undertaking some geography fieldwork. We did 3 investigations: Measuring the speed of the flow of the river; investigating what animals live in the river and mapping the profile of the riverbed. We were surprized at how many creatures we found in the river, especially the number of freshwater shrimps which lived under stones. We also found loads of tadpoles in the lake and Miss Butler nearly trod on a small frog! Next week we will use our data to make graphs of our findings.
