Saxon longbows

Ashmansworthy class made arrows and longbows, Saxon style, in forest school today. After cutting a long straight stick for the arrow, they whittled the end to a lethal point and used a hack saw to make a notch for the string. Bows were made from lengths of hazel, with string tied tautly whilst it was flexed. Then we practiced firing the arrows which was more difficult than it looked.
