Making fossils

Ashmansworthy class have been learning about evolution in science. After our toilet-roll time-line we studied fossils to find out which era different types of animals were from. We then on to learn about how fossils were formed millions of years ago from mineralisation of the creature’s tissues when they were covered by sediment after they had died.

We made replica fossils out of clay using shells, plastic animals, coral and real fossils. We imprinted the shape of the creatures into the clay. I think you’ll agree, they look very effective. Once they are fired in the kiln we will add some colour.
