Converting miles and kilometers

Year 5 and 6 have been learning how to convert miles to kilometres and kilometres to miles. Yesterday we used a conversion graph to help with the converting. If you know that 5 miles = 8km, what else can you calculate?
Today we followed this up by calculating distances on a map of Mexico using the scale 1cm= 200 km and converting the km to miles. Some children even worked out the cost of the fuel for each journey. When do you think it might be useful to be able to convert from miles to km?
