The Viewer by Shaun Tan

Ashmansworthy Class have been using a book called The Viewer in guided reading this week. It is about a curious child, Tristan, who finds an unusual box in the city dump. When he opens it he finds it full of optical devices which ” illuminate, focus and magnify”. He takes out a viewer and a disk which contains unusual images from the past.  The boy is afraid, but also cannot help but look into the machine time and time again as the images shift and change…

We used this book to predict what will happen  next and used the images to write a poem. Here are some photos of our work.
