Happy Half Term!

Whatever you’re doing this half term, I hope you have a lovely time! This has been a busy half term with statutory assessments, trips & visitors and so on and I know we’re all ready for break. Please remember we have a staff training day on Monday 3rd June, so school reopens for children on Tuesday 4th June.

Forest School

The new season of Forest School begins after half term – with Alminstone, Ashmansworthy and Sunflowers having weekly sessions with our Forest School Leaders. If you are able to help on sessions, particularly on Friday afternoons, please let us know as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Beach Clean

Just a reminder that Ashmansworthy Class have organised a Community Beach Clean event on Westward Ho! beach on Saturday 8th June. Equipment will be provided or you can bring your own gloves and bags – it’s up to you. Everyone is welcome to meet at Westward Ho! slipway at 2pm to take part.

Tag Rugby Success

Well done to the children who took part in the Tag Rugby festival in Barnstaple on Wednesday. The children played extremely well and won 6 games. Despite the school just nudging into the “Large School” category (125+ pupils), the children held their own and had a fantastic time. Well done, everyone! Thank you also to Mrs Stevens and John Heywood for supporting the visit and making the day possible for us.

Mrs Furse

We’re really sad to announce that Mrs Furse has announced that she is retiring at the end of the term. Mrs Furse joined us nine years ago, having previously been at Sutcombe Primary and will be missed by everyone in our school community. We’ll have a proper send-off for Mrs Furse in July, of course, and a replacement for her will be announced as soon as the Governors have made an appointment.

Sports Day

This year, with Mr Davies at the helm, Sports Day will have a different format. We will start the sports with a round-robin of  activities before lunch, at 11am and parents and family are welcome from that time. As usual, we’ll have a picnic lunch on the field with family over the usual lunch break before continuing with events in the afternoon session. Later, there will be a series of races, which Mr Davies has expanded from our previous version. The children will continue to compete in their Family Groups and work towards winning the Sports Day Cup. Sports day will take place on Friday 21st June – please make a note of this in your diaries.

Team Bath PE Trip

If your child has passed the assessment to go on the Team Bath sporting excellence trip later in the term, please make sure you email Adrian Avery by 31st May as well as returning your slip, otherwise a place will not be secured for your child. This is outside the control of the school (there are many schools taking part and although Woolsery are sending proportionately more children than most, it is organised and run by GTS). Full details are explained in your letter which was sent out last week. If you are unsure about any details of the trip, you can email Mr Davies cdavies@woolsery.devon.sch.uk

Mrs Stevens

After the half term break, we will be welcoming back Mrs Kylie Stevens who, as you know, has been on maternity leave. In order to not disrupt Alminstone Class, Mrs Dobson will continue working in that class on Thursdays and Fridays and Mrs Stevens will deliver cover teaching in Cranford (Thursday mornings), Stroxworthy (Thursday afternoons) and Burscott (All day).

We are really delighted with the early success of our new 1st Woolsery Scout Group. With all three sections (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) very well subscribed the future looks very promising for this new group. It’s also wonderful to have so many volunteers stepping in as new Leaders for the sections and developing supporting roles on the Executive Commmittee. Torridge is recognised as an area of notable deprivation in national tables and it’s fantastic to see this group come into being to provide our youngsters with new opportunities in their formative years.

On Thursday 6th June, all of the new Leaders, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be making their Promises and joining the worldwide Scouting family. If you are interested in your child joining, our Group Scout Leader, Priscilla Woodhall, will be able to advise you on available spaces using the email woolserygsl@outlook.com.
