Hallowe’en Disco

Don’t forget that next Friday is the FOWS Hallowe’en Disco here at school. 6-8pm, music tuck shop and games. Entry is £2 per child and, as usual, children in Reception or younger must be accompanied in the hall by their parent.

If you are dropping your child off, please make sure you sign them in at the desk on arrival and if possible take their coat home with you as we won’t be opening the cloakrooms for coat storage on the night. Thanks

SHEU Survey

Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 are taking part in the annual School Education Health Unit (SHEU) survey between now and half term. This is an online survey which is completed every year. It gives the school very useful information about how the children are feeling, how well they feel equipped to deal with things like online bullying, peer pressure etc and also how well they understand the importance of 5-a-day and exercise. Although the survey collects each child’s post code this is for geographical coverage analysis only (the survey is held across the whole county) and no child’s responses can be linked back to them specifically. Once we have the analysis back, we’ll of course share the outcomes with parents along with the implications of how we need to adapt our provision here to meet the needs identified.

Fire Safety Talks

Years 2 and 5 have had a visit today from Firefighter Teresa from Bideford Fire Station. She has talked to them about fire safety in the home and what to do in an emergency. All children in these year groups will be bringing home some resources – please take some time over the weekend to talk about what your child has learned; it could save a life.

Stroxworthy Class

Children in Stroxworthy Class are bringing home an important, enveloped letter today. Please have a look through your child’s book bag to check it’s there. Thanks.

Parent-Teacher Meetings

Next week, class teachers will be meeting with all parents to discuss progress so far this year and answer any questions you have about your child’s learning or social interaction in school. If you haven’t yet made an appointment, please get in touch with your child’s teacher as soon as possible. We aim to see all parents each term, so families who aren’t able to come next week will be offered appointment times after the half term break. Teachers can be reached in person at the start and end of the school day, or by email:

New Appointments

This week we held interviews for our Kitchen Assistant post and for our Mealtime Assistant Vacancy. I am very pleased to tell you that Mr Tim Riches has been appointed as our new Kitchen Assistant, helping Dave with preparation, service and clean up each day. Tim will begin working with us after half term when Tina reverts to her School Office duties only. Mrs Clare Harding has also been appointed as a regular Mealtime Assistant having been covering staff absence for the least few weeks.  I am sure your children will get to know both members of staff very quickly, and we welcome them to our school.

At the end of next week, Mrs Karen Summers leaves us having been a mealtime assistant, and at the school and preschool for the last eighteen months.  We will miss Mrs Summers enormously, but are very pleased that she will continue to help out at Forest School and on school trips and visits.

We therefore have one remaining post available which is a one-day-per-week Mealtime Assistant Post for Mondays. If you are interested in applying to be a mealtime assistant, please speak with Sue Miles in the school office.

Photographs

All children who were in school on Wednesday had their photos taken by Alan Schofield. Instructions for logging on to view or order your photos will be sent home before half term. If anyone was away from school on photo day, Alan is very happy for you to drop in to his Bear Street, Barnstaple studio to have them done on Saturday mornings or during half term. Your child will need to be in Woolsery School Uniform in order to take advantage of this kind offer. If you would like to check on opening times during half term, his number is 01271 344480
