Covid-19 Update for Parents w/c 16th March 2020

Dear Parents,

The letter I sent out on Monday can be found here: letter to parents 16th March 2020 and contains much of the information you need at the present time. UPDATE- The Prime Minister has stated that self isolation shoud now be for 14 days, not 7 as decribed in my letter.

If you are self-isolating, please remember:

  • This must be for at least the minimum recommended period. You cannot change your mind mid-way through the absence period.
  • Children who are recorded as self isolating cannot be mixing with the general population during the period of isolation
  • If they are well, we expect self-isolating children to continue with their school work wherever possible. (see below)

Remote Learning

Our remote learning platform is Google Classroom. You can log into your child’s Google Classroom account here:

Children should use the username they use to log into Chromebooks in school, with the addition of “” (so a child with the usual login jbloggs would log in with ). They should use their personal password which has been supplied by school. If your child has forgotten it, please email your child’s class teacher in the first instance. Classroom works best in a Chrome browser, but will work in most and across all platforms.

Each teacher is setting Remote Learning work for children who are not attending school but are well enough to learn. We have an expectation that children should be continuing their learning whenever possible and I have asked teachers to set a maths, an English and a foundation subject task each day during the normal school terms. Staff will be marking work and feeding back to children so it’s important that your child keeps up to date with the tasks set for them.

In school we are taking a variety of precautions in the hope of staying open for as long as we can. These include:

  • suspension of all non essential gatherings such as assemblies, family group times etc
  • doors wedged open wherever possible
  • door handles, light switches, handrails, taps, etc are being disinfected hourly throughout the day
  • modified lunch arrangements to reduce crowding
  • halting of visitors into school and visits out of school
  • daily contact (by phone) with those who are self isolating

Should the school be told to close for a long perid of time, we will move our entire curriculum onto Google Classroom so please familiarise yourself with it now. On tablets and phones, download the app from your app store (it’s free), otherwise, use the link on the image above.

We will continue to communicate with our school community in all the usual ways, including a weekly Newsletter which will appear on this site.

More updates will be added as we have them – stay safe, everyone.
