Ofsted thanks

As you may know, Buckland Brewer Primary was inspected by Ofsted on Tuesday. This was an “Ungraded” or short inspection carried out by two Inspectors. There is a strong quality assurance process around the publication of the outcomes from the Inspection and this means the Inspectors’ findings will not be public for a few weeks yet. As soon as their report is released, it will be circulated to all parents of children registered at the school. Shortly after that it will be placed on the Ofsted website for public access.

In the meantime, though, we would like to say thank-you to the parents at Buckland Brewer who either spoke to the inspection team on the day or who submitted the ParentView survey – it was good to feel your overwhelming support during the inspection process.

Finally, the children were, of course, amazing during the Inspection. Their behaviour was exemplary and they spoke with confidence and enthusiasm to the adults in the school – I have thanked them in assembly this morning for this fabulous attitude, but please give them an extra well-done at the weekend.

Gliddon & Squire Cross Country

The next round of races for the Gliddon and Squire Cross Country is this Sunday 15th January on the Northam Burrows long course. Please note the later starting times with the first Race at 11:30am.  Best of luck to all our runners.

School Lunches information for all schools

Just to let you know that on Monday 23rd January, our Chef, Dave Ward will be changing the scheduled menu from Ham & Cheese Pasta Bake or Cheese & Tomato Pasta Bake to Sweet & Sour chicken or Sweet & Sour Vegetables, Rice, Egg Noodles and Prawn Crackers followed by Jam & coconut sponge pudding and fortune cookies. This is in response to the children’s School Voice teams requesting that we have a special meal to celebrate Chinese New Year: the year of the Rabbit. We won’t update the online menu for this one-off variation so please remember that if you order the published “Main” option, your child will have sweet sour chicken; if they order the veggie option, they will have sweet and sour vegetables.

Also, on a permanent basis Dave is taking Battered Cod and Chips off the menu and replacing it with Fish Goujons and Chips.  The price of battered fish has become unsustainable for us and we’re concerned about the disappointing quality of the fish being supplied.  We will be able to oven-bake the fish goujons which should make them far more appetising as well. The online menu will be updated as soon as possible.

Filming

Next week, the company who provides our Real PE scheme will be visiting Woolsery School to video the children taking part in Real Gym lessons. This is testament to the high quality PE Mr Davies is leading with the staff at Woolsery – the company are coming to record video footage of the children participating in gymnastics in a (very) small hall to support other schools with limited PE resources. This will be used in both in-lesson video shorts which the children are used to watching during their lessons, and in wider publicity and training materials.

M&M Theatre Performance

On Thursday afternoon next week, all three schools will come together at Woolsery Village Hall to watch “Cinderella” by M&M Productions. The performance begins at 1:30 so all children will be back in their “home” schools byt he end of the day for normal pick-up time. We are very, very grateful for the support of our three PTAs: FOBBS, FOPPS and FOWS for funding the majority of the cost of this experience for your children to enjoy.

Clubs

Clubs have begun at Buckland Brewer and Parkham this week. Unfortunately, due to the Ofsted inspection at Buckland Brewer I was unable to get the clubs information out to Woolsery families earlier this week, but we are intending to begin clubs from next week despite the short notice. Please book After School clubs online using the Google Form here: https://forms.gle/5AnvmcdmHHjh6ZB5A

Mrs Oyarzabal will run a Lego Club for EYFS and KS1 on Tuersday lunchtimes and Mrs Morrison will run a book club on Friday lunchtimes. There is no need to book for these clubs as children can just turn up.

After half term, gardening club and art club will be added to the list.

Key Stage 2 SATS

We’ve now had confirmation that due to the Coronation on 8th May, Y6 SATS will run from Tuesday 9th to Friday 12th May this year. Ms Richardson is holding an information session for Woolsery parents next week – please try to attend if you are able to. Mrs Hanger and Mr Marks will also hold meetings about getting your child ready for SATS in the next few weeks.

Well done to everyone who has been chosen to receive the first Headteacher’s Awards of 2023 for developing fantastic learning behaviours which are represented in our schools by the six animals:

Orleigh: Timmy (dolphin)– for diving into his learning and settling straight into his new class. Leo M (tortoise)- for being resilient and carrying on trying to do things by himself even when they are tricky, like changing for PE

He then made an envelope for it!
