Islands (scarf 27.1.23)

For this week’s scarf in Alminstone we talked about personal body space. We started the session with a game called ‘Islands’ (musical chairs but with bits of paper for islands). The class thoroughly enjoyed this game despite it becoming harder for the children to gather on one island. They got very creative and even gave other children piggy backs, so that more that one person could get on the Island. The children didn’t seem to mind getting close to their peers at this stage.

Next the children got into pairs. They took it in turns to walk towards their partner to try and invade their personal space. The one who was stationary had to use visual clues to notify their partner that they we too close or that they didn’t feel comfortable.
