Great Potatoes!

Wow, everyone! What an absolutely amazing array of decorated potatoes we’ve had in all three schools this week to celebrate World Book Day. As you know, this is the first time we’ve tried something “new” to mark World Book Day and we weren’t sure if it was the right thing to do or not, but the imagination and creativity of the children and their ability to talk about the character they had represented in potato-form has been inspiring.

I know these models didn’t just happen on their own, so a huge thank-you to parents too for helping with ideas and “tricky bits” on your child’s potato. We couldn’t have done it without you.

The potatoes will be on display for a while in the library areas in all three schools for a while so please drop in if you’d like to have a look at them. Once they start to deteriorate we will throw them away so it’s very important that you let your child’s class teacher know if part of the decoration is important and needs to be saved – thank you.

Finally, well done to the children who won prizes for their efforts – we have given out 6 £10 Book Tokens and 18 Easter Eggs for all sorts of characters from The Highway Rat to Paddington Bear.

ScoPay Presentations

Please remember that Sue Miles is coming into Buckland Brewer and Parkham schools over the next week or so to show parents how to use the new online payment system, ScoPay. If you are able to drop in please do, so that you’re ready for when the system goes live for you over the Easter break. Presentations will take place in the School Hall.

Cross Country – Final Meet

A hige well done to all of our runners who have attended the Gliddon and Squire Cross Country series throughout the winter. The final meet is at West Buckland School, starting at 10am. We are very proud of both your determination and commitment throughout the season and hope you enjoy the final meet for the year.

Online Gymnastics Finals

The finals of the online gymnastics competition, which Village Schools Partnership has reached, were scheduled for next Friday, 9th March. However, due to illness of the organisers these have been postponed. Once we have a date for the re-scheduled FInal, we will make arrangments to once again bring all our competitors to one of our schools on our minibus so that they can participate in the final together as a group.

Sunflowers Preschool Bookings

Booking is now open for Summer Term sessions in Sunflowers Preschool at Woolsery School. Booking is open for two weeks, so please make sure you’ve told us what you need by Friday 17th March at the latest. We will confirm bookings with you before the end of term on 31st March.

Drop-In at Drop-Off Coffee Morning

FOWS will be holding another drop-in coffee morning at drop-off time on the morning of 17th March in the school hall. Please come along if you can for the opportunity to catch up with other parents over a cuppa. Everyone is welcome.

Red Nose Day – Comic Relief

Red Nose Day is coming up on Friday 17th March and the members of School Voice in all three schools are asking everyone to bring in a donation of your choice in order to raise money for people affected by poverty in the UK and across the world.
To make the day special, children are invited to wear it red  and/or have crazy hair on that day.
In addition, the schools are each holding a joke competition. Children are invited to tell a joke to their classmates, who will then vote for the one that makes them laugh the most. The winning joke from each class will be performed in assembly.
Wear it red, make us laugh and raise money for this special charity.

Table-Top Sale

FOWS are planning a Table Top Sale for Sunday April 23rd at the Village Hall.
If you would like a Table to sell from, please contact us to arrange reservation and payment (£10per table). We will be selling refreshments and there will be a raffle.
As always, your support is crucial to this being a success, so please put the date in your diaries and do come down to the hall from 1pm -3pm.
We would be delighted to receive donations of cakes to sell and good raffle prizes.
Please email us on helloteamwoolley@outlook.com  if you want to get involved. VOLUNTEERS TO HELP ARE MOST WELCOME!

Message from Mr Marks…

I’m writing as a representative of Holsworthy Cricket Club, and to promote our National Cricketing Programmes this summer.
Every Friday from 12th May, we are running ‘All Stars’ Cricket for children aged 5-8 (including 4 year olds in Reception) from 4.15pm to 5pm.
All Stars Cricket provides boys and girls from 5-8 years old with 12 weeks of non-stop fun. The activity and game based programme is suitable for all skill levels, providing your child with the foundations to begin a lifelong love of physical activity and cricket, while making friends in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Also from Friday 12th May, we will also be running ‘Dynamos’ Cricket for children aged 8-11 from 5.15pm to 6.15pm
Dynamos Cricket provides boys and girls from 8-11 years old with 12 sessions of non-stop fun. Each week there will be a focus on a different cricket skill to build their confidence and ability, before they take part in a 60-ball countdown cricket match. Dynamos Cricket will help grow your child’s love of the game, and will give them the opportunity to socialise and make friends in a safe environment.
We are also offering 4 FREE TASTER SESSIONS for Year 6 children in March at Holsworthy Sports Hall 7pm-8pm. Come along and give it a go…
