World Record Attempt…

Classes across the Village Schools Partnership have been attempting to become Guiness World Record Holders.  The record is to be part of the most pledges received for an exercise campaign in one month.  The current record is 241,675 pledges to complete a mile walking, jogging and running.  Along with other schools in the country the number of pledges made is rising.  On May 12th, we will find out if we are Guiness World Record holders. Photos of our efforts, along with lots of other pictures of our day-to-day learning experiences can be found on the blog.

Multiskills at ARC

Key Stage 1 children had a super time at the Atlantic Racquet Centre yesterday, working alongside children from St Mary’s and St George’s. It’s great to have this facility on our doorstep, and for ARC to host events like this for our children, which builds on the skills the chidlren are developing through their REAL PE weekly physical education lessons.

FOWS News

We are very pleased to be able to announce that the Friends of Woolsery School made over £500 at the Table Top Sale last Sunday! Thank you to everyone who supported the event by coming down, having a browse, buying raffle tickets and enjoying the refreshments. An even bigger thank you to those who made it possible by having a table. There was some wonderful, persuasive selling from Woolsery pupils! We really couldn’t do it without the wider Woolsery Community who always show up to support our school fundraisers.

Our next fundraiser is fast approaching and is the Bag2School collection. Please sort out any unwanted stuff on their ‘wanted list’, bag it up and drop it off by Wednesday May 10th (see poster). We are paid per kilo so everything helps.

Buckland Brewer Coronation Celebrations

Buckland Brewer School is proud to be part of the forthcoming celebrations to mark the King’s Coronation. FOBBS are asking for donations of cake for the village event which will be held on Sunday 7th May in the village hall. Please bring cakes to Suzanne Kirby either on Friday / Saturday or bring to Sue Kersey who will be at Buckland Brewer village hall on Sunday.
All children to receive a coronation mug and a crown competition will take place.

Colour Run is coming…

Our three amazing Parent-Teacher Associations are coming together for a huge fundraiser and fun day in the form of Colour Run 2023. This will take place on Woolsery School field on the afternoon of 24th June. It is open to everyone so you can run as families you’d like to.

This is an enormous project for the three PTAs to take on and requires a huge outlay to buy in the special coloured powder and other items needed for the Colour Run to go smoothly. If you run a business and are interested in being an Official Sponsor, this letter with details of how you can help.

In the meantime, please keep Saturday 24th June free in your diaries: we want as many children taking part as possible! More details on booking and child-sponsorship will be out very soon.

London Residential

All children who are taking part in the Year 5 Residential to London in a few weeks’ time will be getting together next Thursday afternoon. This will give the children to get to know each other, ask questions about the trip and do some pre-learning with Mrs Barnes and myself about Parliament and the other experiences they will see in the Capital. Buckland Brewer children will be picked up in our minibus as soon as they’ve eaten their lunch, we’ll then go on to Parkham to collect from there, then head off to Woolsery for the afternoon. All children will be back in their own schools by the end of the school day.
