Newsletter: 26th May 2023

Happy Half Term!

Our schools have been glorious this week, with proper warm, summer weather for the children to enjoy. It looks like this will extend into the half term break as well, so whatever your plans are for the two week break, I hope you have a lovely time.

It’s been a very busy week at school, with the London Residential for our Year 5 children (which was a huge success) and numerous trips out for many classes. If you haven’t yet looked through the photos of the London trip, the posts have now been de-restricted so you no longer need to enter a password to see them – just click on the menu at the top of this Newsletter and click on the London 2023 category to bring the Posts up.

Colour Run… Nearly Here!

The Colour Run event on June 24th is gradually filling up. We now have just over 100 competitors. Please click on this link or scan the poster to sign up as soon as possible.
https://www.evententry.co.uk/village-schools-partnership-colour-run-2023

Everyone is welcome so share the information with wider family or friends. Ideally we want everyone to sign up by the end of this weekend. We dont need sponsorship money by then, just the booking in via the system. And remember, the £20.23 amount is just a target to aim for.
There will be lots to do for runners and spectators alike: jumbo inflatable slide, food, lots of interesting stalls, icecreams, raffle and the opportunity to throw coloured powder all over your friends!

In terms of organising, we need (please):
More volunteers.
Raffle prizes.
Bottles for the Tombola.
A scramble net or 2.

Thank you! FOWS, FOPS & FOBBS

Bude Residential

On the last day of the half term break, Year 6 will be travelling to Bude for their week-long stay in the town for their action-packed adventure. Please remember you need to meet Ms Richardson and myself at Woolsery School Hall on Sunday 11th June at 2:30pm. Please park in the school car park, which will be open for you.

When you are packing for the trip, please remember that shorts must be mid thigh length: children will NOT be allowed to take part in activities in short-shorts, nor will they be able to wear any jewellery so it’s important your child is able to remove and re-insert ear studs themselves.

As with the London and Pixies Holt residentials, we will keep everyone updated on the week via our Blog Posts.

Staff Changes

I am sorry to say that Miss Shorney has decided that the time is right for her to leave Village Schools Partnership and move on to new challenges. Miss Shorney has been Early Years/KS1 class teacher at Buckland Brewer School for the past two years and during that time has successfully completed her Early Career Teacher programme. We wish Miss Shorney every success for the future and thank her for her commiment over what has been a period of enormous change in the school.

An advert is being placed in order to appoint Miss Shorney’s successor at the school and as soon as I have news on that appointment, I will of course let you know.

Safeguarding

Our IT Partner, Scomis, has issued another really useful e-safety Newsletter for parents. It contains lots of hints and tips for managing your child’s online safety, together with alerts about the current most pressing dangers. You can read it here: Scomis Newsletter May 23.

Miniature Gardens Competition

We are re-running our Miniate Garden competition this year, in association with Merry Harriers Nursery.

If your child would like to enter, they should collect their tray from Mrs Farmer at Woolsery, Miss McCann at Parkham or the school office at Buckland.
Please complete the entry card with name, age theme and school clearly attached to your child;s tray.
You will need to deliver your child’s tray (with entry card attached) to Merry Harriers during the week leading up to Friday 23rd June ready for the Exhibition Weekend on 24th/25th June. You can just hand the tray in to any staff member in the shop.

Judging takes place late on Friday 23rd June so please make sure your child’s entry is there in time!

The categories for this year’s gardens are:

  • The Kings Garden
  • A garden using recycled materials
  • A butterfly and bee garden

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category. Entry is free. Good luck!
