Crafty Club: Plant Pots

We turned yogurt pots into beautifully decorated plant pots. Then, we filled our pots with compost and planted some parsley seeds.

Crafty Club: Sock Puppets

In Crafty Club on Friday, we made some fantastic animal sock puppets. There was a tiger, a shark and snake to name just a few. Can you tell which is which?

Making Roman Bread

Some of us had a go at making some Roman -style bread using wholemeal flour, salt, yeast and water. It was surprisingly tasty!

Representing numbers

We have been using Base 10 to represent four digit numbers.

Roman Cooking

Some of us have been doing some Roman cooking with Mrs Furse. Yesterday, we made ‘Panis Dulis’ (sweet bread) using bread, milk, olive oil and honey. It was scrumptious! We also found a recipe for ‘Stuffed Dormouse’; a common Roman treat. Perhaps we will make that next week…!

Mummification

We have been learning all about mummification. Mr Medhurst demonstrated and explained some of the processes involved and we talked about the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians including their ideas about the afterlife .

Egyptian Maths

In Maths today we did some problem solving with an Egyptian theme.

Artist Visit

We were very lucky to be visited by a local artist (Bill Bromfield) this afternoon. Persuasive Writing

In English, we have been identifying the features of persuasive writing by exploring a range of leaflets for attractions in Devon. We also looked at, discussed and annotated an example of a persuasive text written by Ashmansworthy Class.

Viking Shields

Alminstone Class have been busy creating these creative and colourful shields to adorn the Viking longship on the school field. Watch them go up in smoke tomorrow afternoon!

Topic research

The children in Alminstone Class have been working hard this afternoon to find information to help answer the question, “What impact did the Viking invasion have on the kingdoms of England.” Some children found out about what happened at Lindisfarne whilst others looked into Danelaw and why the Vikings settled where they did.

Village Walk
