About Our School

Woolsery Primary School opened its doors in January 1879. Mr Francis Salter, the first Headmaster commented in the Log Book that reading and writing by the new pupils was reasonable , but, “of arithmetic they know nothing. ” How things have changed!

We are now proud to have a thriving school with above average results, an excellent reputation for outdoors learning and a family environment where everyone is valued and values others. Our motto, Learning at the Heart of the Community reflects our commitment to our school community of parents, children, staff and governors and also to our wider community of Woolsery, Bucks, Clovelly and numerous outlying farms and hamlets.

Woolsery Primary School is proud of its Forest School tradition, delivering weekly forest school sessions to our children every week of the school year. Our Forest School was established in 2008 and relies heavily on parents to support sessions, which are delivered by our own staff who hold NVQ Level 3 in Advanced Forest School Leadership.

We also pride ourselves on our pastoral care. We are a Thrive School, delivering a Thrive ethos across the school, together with carefully designed bespoke support programmes to enable all children to learn. We have on-site bereavement support, drawing and talking, and play, therapy sessions.

In 2013, the school developed further to incorporate and already thriving Preschool into our school family. Sunflowers Preschool offers sessions every day during term time, with close links to our Foundation Stage class, Class 1. In the same year, we also changed status to a Foundation School as a founder member of the Atlantic Coast Cooperative Trust- an educational Trust strongly focues on developing educational provision across the Bideford area, through collaboration and cooperation.

Our school has five classes in total, as well as our Preschool.  Please look through our blogs to see what’s been happening or, for more information, check our website (www.woolsery.devon.sch.uk) and our Twitter feed, @woolseryschool.
