Burton Art Exhibition

If you’ve not yet had the chance to visit the Burton Art Gallery in Victoria Park, Bideford, please try to make time to do so. The Annual Schools’ Exhibition is amazing this year, with exhibits from Reception through to A-Level. All three of our schools has a large amount of work on display and we’re very proud of the standard achieved by the children. Last year, a child from Woolsery (Mia ) and Parkham (Ethan) won a prize each for their exhibits and I’m very, very happy to announce that this year two children from Buckland Brewer have won prizes: a huge well done to Charlie and Hannah, both in Tythecott Class! They attended an awards ceremony at the Gallery yesterday (Thursday), along with parents and Mrs Kersey, to receive their prizes.

To add to the excitement, Melbury Class at Parkham won a £50 prize for their camouflaged animals using Henri Rousseau as inspiration – this was an unexpected bonus and so Melbury Class will need to have a think about how they want to spend their money…

The Schools Exhibition is on until 24th March. (There is also an excellent Lego sculputre and art exhibition, complete with a some build-your-own stations, in the gallery next to the Schools Exhibition, which I know some of our children will love! It’s there until 18th March)

Gliddon and Squire Cross Country League

A huge congratulations to all the children who competed in the Gliddon and Squires Cross Country League.  The fixtures were all very tough and the weather not always kind, but you showed great resilience and determination for each race. We are so proud of your incredible effort and commitment. Well done.

Conjunctivitis

We have a growing number of cases of conjunctivitis in our schools at the moment. Please be vigilant for symptoms of this very irritating eye complaint and speak to your pharmacist or GP if you suspect your child has it. Conjunctivitis is easily relievable with eye drops to reduce the itching and your child does not have to miss school if they have it unless they are too unfomfortable to manage, for example, before the eye drops have had a chance to work: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/conjunctivitis/ Thanks.

Cookies and Book Sale Thanks

Thank you to everyone who supported the Cookies and Hot Chocolate sale, and also the second hand book sale, at Buckland Brewer School. FOBBS managed to raise £51.63 from the book sale and £57.80 from the hot chocolate and cookie sale totalling £109.43.

FOBBS would like to thank everyone that supported these events. Money raised is going towards the outside learning area for the foundation stage class.

Red Nose Day – Comic Relief

Red Nose Day is coming Next Friday and the members of School Voice in all three schools are asking everyone to bring in a donation of your choice in order to raise money for people affected by poverty in the UK and across the world.
To make the day special, children are invited to wear it red  and/or have crazy hair on that day.
In addition, the schools are each holding a joke competition. Children are invited to tell a joke to their classmates, who will then vote for the one that makes them laugh the most. The winning joke from each class will be performed in assembly.
Wear it red, make us laugh and raise money for this special charity.
Please note that children in Ashmansworthy Class must not wear coloured hair as they have swimming on that day and the pool do not want hair dye in their water!

The next FOWS “Drop off – Drop in Coffee Morning” will be on Friday 17th March from 8.50am till 10am in the school hall. Everyone is welcome.
FOWS are planning the Table Top Sale for Sunday April 23rd at the Village Hall.
If you would like a Table to sell from, please contact us to arrange reservation and payment (£10per table). 8 tables have already been reserved.
As always, your support is crucial to this being a success, so please put the date in your diaries and come down to the hall from 1pm -3pm.
Refreshments will be available and we would be delighted to receive donations of cakes to sell. The raffle prizes are already looking fantastic: tickets for Exmoor Zoo, a Honey’s voucher and a £50 voucher for the Farmers Arms!
Please email us on helloteamwoolley@outlook.com  if you want to get involved, donate cakes or raffle prizes. VOLUNTEERS TO HELP ARE MOST WELCOME!

Lost Property

The School Lost Property box (in reception) is overflowing. Please look on the Friends of Woolsery School Facebook page to view photos. Lots of it has been in there for many months. All the lunch boxes, water bottles and bulky coats are taking up lots of room. Click this link and get reunited with what you may not know you have lost! Anything not claimed by Easter will go to either: FOWS 2nd hand uniform store, the next Bags2School collection or the bin!
