Annual Reports

Annual Reports on your child’s progress this year are in book bags tonight. Please take some time to read them; they give you important information about how your child is doing and what their challenges next year will be. If you would like to meet your child’s teacher to discuss any of the comments or grades in the report, you can email them directly using the addreses below. The cover letter which should be in the envelope with your child’s report, describes the system we have used for effort and attainment gradings.

For children who have had statutory tests this term (Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 6), these results will be sent out separately next week or the beginning of the week after when all results have been released to us by the Standards and Testing Agency.

If you don’t live with your child, our office staff will be sending a copy of your child’s report to you by post this evening, so you should receive your copy to the address we have on file for you, in due course.

Sports Days

Sports Days are next week! The weather is looking showery, but we are anticipating being able to run all three events.

For Buckland Brewer (Thursday 13th), you are able to come at lunchtime and share a picnic on the field with your child from 12 noon. Children who don’t have parents coming in will have lunch as normal in school and join everyone else on the field later. Please ensure your ScoPay order for school lunches reflects what you want your child to do next Thursday. Sports Day will run for the afternoon and you will be able to take your child home at the end of the proceedings.

For Parkham (Friday 14th), you are able to come onto the football field from 12:40 pm and support your child participate in the activities and races which will begin at 1pm. Following Sports Day, FOPS will be serving Cream Teas at the Allardice Hall – see poster below.

For Woolsery (Wednesday 12th), Sports Day begins as 10:30am and you are welcome to come onto the school field at any time from then onwards to support your child and watch the races. You are also welcome to share a picnic lunch with your child at lunchtime but, as for Buckland Brewer, please ensure that ScoPay reflects what your child is doing for lunch on the day. Children having school lunches will be able to take their hot dog onto the field and eat with you but we won’t be able to offer additional hot dogs for other family members. Sports Day runs through the afternoon so you can also come for the afternoon section which will begin at around 1:10pm.

For all schools, children will be doing their team challenges in their Family Groups so you will be able to follow all of your children’s activities at the same time before watching the races which will be by year group.

Please ensure your child has their correct PE kit in school for Sports Day. This includes our long-established rule to not wear jewellery, including ear rings, for PE activities. It’s much easier for your child if they leave ear rings out on the day, but if this may cause problems, please speak to your child’s teacher ahead of their Sports Day)

Polytunnel Plea

The Polytunnel at Woolsery School is enjoying its first season in production – with the promise of lots of tomatoes and melons, amongst other things, later in the summer. Louise is hoping to be able to set up a watering rota to look after things during the school holiday. If you are able to volunteer a couple of days over the break where you and your children could go in and water the plants from the water tank next to the polytunnel, we’d really appreciate it. You will also, of course, have access to the school field whilst you’re watering, so please feel free to use it as thanks for your time! (Children from all three schools carry out work in the polytunnel, so this offer is open to all families within the Village Schools Partnership)

If you can help, Louise’s email address is lgrout@villageschools.org.uk – she is hoping to be able to circulate a rota before the start of the holidays if enough people come forward.

Thanks

Business Week

Today is the culmination of the older year group’s Business Week which has encouraged the children to understand more about commerce, advertising, profit and loss (though hopefully not too much of the loss!) Thank you in advance if you’re coming in to school this afternoon to support the children’s efforts – we all really appreciate it.

Year 5 Taster Day at GTS

We’ve received this message to pass on to parents who have children booked onto the Great Torrington School taster day next Monday…

GTS Year 5 Day – Monday 10th July

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you and your children to our Year 5 day on Monday 10th July.

As advertised you are welcome to return to school at 2.30pm to watch the afternoon’s PE activities.

However, despite us ordering sunshine, it seems there may be a chance of inclement weather.

Should this happen the PE activities will not be observable, in which case we request you collect your child at 3pm.

Miniature Gardens

Congraulations to all of the children who have won prizes in the Merry Harriers Garden Centre miniature garden competition this year. Even if you didn’t get around to submitting your child’s entry, please could you return the black tray to your school next week so that we can run the compeition again next year? Many thanks.
