We’re continuing our Online Safety series, this week looking at 8-10 year olds

Rather like last week’s Jessie and Friends series for 5-7 year olds, the CEOP resources for the next age up comes in a series of 3 movies designed to be a starting point for conversations at home. The series is called Play, Like Share.

The collection of 3 videos looks at blocking people online, and how to spot and respond to intimidating or unwanted behaviour. These videos are designed to be watch alongside your child and be a starting point for discussions and further conversation. There is also a game to play to reinforce the messages.

The link to the three videos is here: https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/8_10/watch/

The NSPCC also have an excellent collection of online guides aimed specifically at Parents:

It’s Tonight!

This evening is the FOPS Christmas Fayre at the Allardice Hall – lots of stalls and Christmassy-ness to enjoy! Please come along if you can and support the fundraising efforts of one of our three PTAs!

Cross Country League

Well done to the cross country runners who went to the third race in the series over at Coxleigh Barton last weekend.  In the Under 11s, Monti was 35th, Molly 34th and Bella 19th – great results!

Raffle Prizes Needed

Please bring any donations for raffle prizes for the upcoming  productions of Panto Pandemonium, Alice the Musical and Porridge to your child’s school next week so they can be prepared ready for the draws which will take place at each performance. Thanks

Christingle and Clovelly Carols

On Sunday, the children from Buckland Brewer School will be performing a selection of songs in the village’s Christingle service. The service begins at 4pm, so please meet me in the church a little before that time.

Also, on Sunday evening, the children from Woolsery School will be singing carols and performing a Christmas song at the switch-on of Clovelly Lights. You’ll be meeting Mrs Morrison and Ms Richardson at the Visitor Centre Car Park at 3:20pm

Good luck to both schools, and thank you for taking part in these important community events!

Well done to everyone who has received a Christmas Headteacher’s Award in assembly today! As usual, our awards are given in recognition of achievements relating to our six learning animals which represent for children the qualities needed to be a good learner. They are:

Orleigh: Elliot (Dolphin) For working independently to create an owl number line and matching the correct numicon shapes and number of counters to each owl; Ellie (Tortoise) For good participation in phonics and increasing independence when sounding and blending CVC words during reading.

Tythecott: Matilda (bee) – for working together by supporting Orleigh with their dance for our rehearsals for the whole school production; Grace (tortoise) – for being resilient during our maths this week using column method.

Gorwood: Monti (spider) – for making connections with his topic learning and talking knowledgeably to adults about it; Jayden (tortoise) – for being resilient when learning his lines for the play

Foxdown: Harry (tortoise) – Harry has worked hard to hear the words phonemes make when they are blended together. Harry is now reading so many more words accurately; Jasper (dolphin) –  Jasper has dived into his story writing. He included adjectives, punctuation and challenged himself to write as much as he could!

Melbury: Ethan (dolphin) – Excellent engagement with Maths this week, working hard to see number patterns. Well done Ethan; Hugo (tortoise) –  Being resilient in English this week and writing some good noun phrases.

Goldworthy: Harrison (tortoise) for showing good learning attitudes and continuing to develop his resilience and perseverance when things become difficult; Roman (dolphin) for diving into and working extremely hard in mathematics (fractions) this week.

Sunflowers:

Cranford:  Henry (dolphin) – for some amazing independent maths work this week.  Well done for doing extra work; Aubree – (dophin) for trying hard in ‘mighty minutes’ this week.  You are trying hard to blend words together.

Burscott: Ezra (dolphin) – for engaging with all his work this week and producing some lovely writing about Polar Express; Oscar (tortoise) – for overcoming his fear of maths and working carefully to achieve great results

Stroxworthy: Florence (bee) – for working together like a bee and showing superb teamwork during our Science experiments about water evaporation; Alfie (tortoise) – for being resilient like a tortoise and always trying his hardest particularly in maths, with area, multiplication and division.

Alminstone: Cadey (dolphin) – for diving into her English learning – researching and making careful notes about the life of children in the Victorian Era; Alfie (dolphin) – fantastic effort in learning time-table facts, resulting in a great win in a game of Around the World.

Ashmansworthy: Cobain (dolphin) – for consistently applying himself to his learning, especially in problem-solving; Emily-Rose (tortoise) – for conscientiously applying herself to her learning, even when feeling unwell
